About the Author: Leanne Pearson grew up in Durban, South Africa. She later immigrated to New Zealand, where she now lives with her husband, and two children. During her down time, if she's not reading, she can be found relaxing outside, sipping on an apple cider, soaking up the sights and sounds of rural New Zealand. Leanne has had a few feature articles published in the newspaper over the years and has had a flair for creative writing from a very young age.

Kate survives a huge earthquake while her longtime boyfriend, Daniel dies in the rubble. Kate has to deal with the pain and guilt that comes along with that and when Dominic comes along it seems to make things worse and yet better. But can Kate pull herself out of the destructive behaviour she’s demonstrating or will it drag her down to the bottom? Find the official description on Goodreads.
The story is told from mostly Kate’s perspective. We get to see intimately the grief and guilt she is dealing with after Daniel’s death and the ways she turns to handle them as well as why she turns to those specific things. It’s painful to read and yet because most of us have lost someone we can at least empathize with her if not sympathize. We also get to see some of Dominic’s perspective which gives us a look into his past something that is necessary in order to understand why he is the way he is. Both are affected by their pasts and it’s easy to see when you actually understand what is in their pasts, especially the tragedies.
Leanne Pearson realistically portrays the pain and grief that both Dom and Kate experience. Not only that but Kate experiences survivors guilt and it seems very realistic. It’s easy to get lost in their pain and Kate’s guilt, feeling their pain as well as sadness for their tragic pasts.
However this means that it is a very emotionally painful book. It seemed that I had many more downs than ups while reading this book and yet sometimes that’s refreshing to read. In the case of Fractured this was true. It was marvellous to feel the pain and guilt and grief over their losses throughout the book while still experiencing those few moments of happiness. I enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster and it kept me reading.
If you’re interested in dealing with a lots of emotion as well as romance than this is the book that I would strongly suggest for you. It’s interesting, emotionally charged and just a marvellous read. Do you prefer books that have lots of ups and downs? Or do you prefer something a little more stable?
